Holy Week 2025

This is a special time of reflection on the arrest, trial, and crucifixion story (known as “The Passion”) leading up to our celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday (April 20).

April 13, 2025 — Palms to Passion Sunday (8:30 a.m.)
For many years, Holy Week has begun with the story of Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where the masses treated him as a conquering king. Over the years, as fewer people attended Good Friday services, the church recognized that many were not having an opportunity to connect to the story of Jesus’s arrest and crucifixion, so this Sunday now also includes a reflection on the passion story.

April 17, 2025 (Worship at St. Mary’s Episcopal in Northfield and Bethany UCC in Montpelier)
Maundy Thursday is the traditional remembrance of the final supper with Jesus and his friends before his arrest. This year, we are encouraging our church members to join with our friends at St. Mary’s Episcopal in Northfield or Bethany UCC in Montpelier for a service of remembrance of this event.

Bethany UCC’s service begins with a simple soup supper at 5:45 p.m. followed by a worship experience at 6:30 p.m. This service will include a hand washing to help connect with the story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet.

St. Mary’s service will be at 7 p.m. It does not include footwashing.

April 18, 2025 (6:30 p.m. at Northfield UMC Sanctuary)
Good Friday is when we retell the story of Jesus’s arrest and crucifixion. This year, we remember this story through the seven phrases that Jesus says while on the cross. All are encouraged to join together in Northfield for this meaningful service.

April 20, 2025 (8:30 a.m.)
Easter Sunday is our celebration of Christ’s resurrection. On Easter, we proclaim that we believe the power of sin and death has been overcome, leading to the redemption of the world. We encourage all to invite friends and family to join us for this special time of celebration. This service will also include communion.
